The Rashawn Brazell Memorial Scholarship Mentoring Program
The Rashawn Brazell Memorial Scholarship Mentoring Program connects scholars to a variety of professionals who have pledged time and support for the Memorial Fund, as well as the larger community of African-descended LGBT people and their allies. The purpose of the program is to foster life-long professional and personal relationships that will serve the scholars well during their academic training. The RBMS Mentoring Program also provides emotional support at a crucial time in the lives of our scholars, as they begin to develop both their professional and personal visions.
At the beginning of the mentorship, mentors and scholars create a strategy that will aid the student in balancing their organizing interests with their academic responsibilities. Throughout the year, mentors and students should maintain regular contact to establish an ongoing dialogue about how to face the challenges they encounter in their community service and scholarly pursuits.
In the interest of cultivating a mutually fulfilling relationship, we ask that mentors be accessible and caring, and that students to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities made available to them. Our hope is that these relationships will serve as cornerstones in our ongoing efforts to strengthen progressive, queer and African-descended communities.
