Background on the Rashawn Brazell Memorial Fund
Currently, the number of bias attacks in New York City is at an all-time high and rising. The Rashawn Brazell Memorial Fund calls for a city where the respect of diversity is a high priority. With limited resources, the Fund supports scholars invested in the interrogation of racism, homophobia, and heterosexism, and encourages young people to take action in the city’s various community organizing outlets. Public Education remains one of our core goals, and through organizing panels, workshops, and sponsoring events, we intend on achieving it.
The Fund values the enhancement of the discourse around violence on our communities. We seek to build bridges and forge partnerships with unlikely allies and old friends to create the city Rashawn wanted to live in.
The RMBF offers the media:
- Contact with businesspeople, parents, activists, and scholars of all sexualities who are concerned about the rising tide of violence inflicted upon Queer communities of African descent.
- Contact with community groups and advocacy organizations involved in the movement to dismantle racism and homophobia.
- Data and research on the impact of violence on the Black Queer communities in New York City.
